Good morning to all the press staff. We are here together with our Minister of Government and our Minister of Defense to announce to the Bolivian people that today we have instructed both the Bolivian Police, through our Minister of Government, and our Armed Forces, through our Minister of Defense, to launch an operation to unblock the Oruro-Cochabamba highway.

This course of action we are taking is to address all the demands, all the clamorous requests we see from the Bolivian people that these blockades are affecting their pockets and our population.

We regret once again that personal interests are affecting the population, and especially the pockets of the poorest people, with this escalation of prices we have seen in different markets. Likewise, these efforts will progressively continue on all of our country’s main routes to ensure the free movement of not only passengers but also, above all, goods from one city to another, from east to west and vice versa which is the natural and normal thing that should occur in our country.

We must once again reiterate that these actions, including blockades, acts of vandalism, and violence that have been generated in the country, have the sole objective of overthrowing the national government, as if that were the solution to the problems our country is facing.

The only objective, as we have warned and have said on repeated occasions, is to reiterate the unconstitutional candidacy of Mr. Evo Morales.

We regret that once again personal interests are affecting the lives and economy of the Bolivian people. We have also observed that, in order to carry out these plans, “Evoism” has used two different logics: externally, that we in Bolivia would be committing lawfare, which is absolutely false, as you know. Internally, it uses a narrative that we would be racist against indigenous people, which, as you know, is a completely false accusation.

A double standard to generate opinions favorable to their claims, to their objectives that have nothing to do with what is happening in our country. In our country, there is no lawfare, nor is there any intention to outlaw indigenous rights in our country, as is also widely known.

We have also seen in recent days, the last ten days, that the Evo regime has been intimidating members of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, police officers, and government advisors. They have beaten health and public security personnel, attacked communities, blocked roads, deepened supply shortages, and plan to surround La Paz to starve it to death. We will not allow these types of acts in our country.

Likewise, we do not agree with the double speech. On one hand, they claim to fight for the basic food basket, the family basket, but on the other, they prevent food from circulating in our country. On one hand, they claim to fight for Bolivian families, for the poorest, but they prevent its circulation through the country’s roads and the exercise of employment. They claim to be concerned about fuel, but they hold back the trucks with tankers carrying the fuel our population needs. They claim to be concerned about the well-being of Bolivia and speak of final battles, and that we can achieve with that—these kinds of statements that are made with the Evo regime.

We regret that these kinds of situations are occurring, and of course, the national government will enforce the State’s Political Constitution. On another note, we also want to mention our national government’s commitment to the general elections next August. We have given our word in several meetings and have kept our promise to carry out the elections and provide the Supreme Electoral Tribunal with all our support so that the elections can be held this August, and we are doing so.

I believe we are the only state body that is keeping its promise, pledged in the meeting we all held at the Supreme Electoral Tribunal to carry out the elections. We regret that other bodies are not keeping their promises. They have not complied. We hope that in the coming hours they can redeem themselves and carry out all the measures that have been taken. Therefore, we also announce to the country. We have spoken with the vice president who is currently leading the cabinet, that both the vice president of the Plurinational State as president of the Assembly and the president of the state will attend the meeting convened by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal tomorrow in the city of Santa Cruz.

That is once again our commitment, and we hope that this time, everything that will be agreed upon in this meeting tomorrow can be fulfilled, guaranteed, made viable, and reassured to the Bolivian people that the elections scheduled for August will be smooth sailing and will proceed according to the schedule and as established by our Supreme Electoral Tribunal.
